Ariana Grande lands number one album for Thank U, Next

Ariana Grande has landed the top spot for her fifth studio album Thank U, Next.

The pop princess unveiled her latest album last Friday. Her previous album Sweetener was released back in August.

Ariana bagged the top-selling album spot for her new album, with the Greatest Showman album in second.

The 25-year-old singer also became the first female artist in UK chart history to replace herself at the top of the charts, according to the Official Charts Company.

Grande pushed previous number one 7 Rings down to the second spot with new song Break Up With Your Girlfriend I’m Bored taking the number one spot.

Madonna is the only other female artist to have held the first two positions in the chart simultaneously, with Into The Groove and Holiday in 1985, but she did not knock herself off the top spot.

Another track from the album, Needy, debuted in eighth place, making the star the first female since Ruby Murray in 1955 to have three top 10 singles as a lead artist in the same week, according to the Official Charts Company.

Lewis Capaldi's Someone You Loved took the third place spot with Sam Smith and Normani's Dancing With A Stranger and Mabel's Don't Call Me Up right behind it.

Grande’s record comes after a turbulent few years for the star, following her split from beau Pete Davidson and the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, and focuses on her journey to self-love.
