Earlier this week it was confirmed that American singer Ariana Grande will be made an honorary citizen of Manchester after the work that she did to help those affected by the Manchester terror attack in May.
Now the star has responded to the honour, admitting that she feels “moved” by the gesture and that the victims of the attack are always in her heart.
Sharing a screenshot of a news report announcing the news, Ariana wrote: “I don’t know what to say. Words don’t suffice.
“I’m moved and honoured. My heart is very much still there. I love you. Thank you.”
The star was left “traumatised” when a suicide bomber targeted her concert at Manchester Arena on May 22, detonating a homemade nail bomb at one of the exits following the show, killing 22 people and leaving countless others with serious injuries.
Ariana was determined to do whatever she could to help those who were affected by the attack and organised a star-studded benefit concert, One Love Manchester, at Emirates Old Trafford just two weeks later, raising millions of pounds for victims.
The 24 year old was widely praised for her efforts, with the three-hour concert being streamed across the globe and viewers being left incredibly impressed by just how involved she was in the entire show.
Ariana also took the time to visit hospitalised victims of the attack, bringing them gifts and flowers in hospital, and she also met with relatives of those who lost their lives.
On Wednesday [12 July] councillors voted unanimously to give Ariana the prestigious title of honorary citizen, with council leader Sir Richard Leese calling the star “a young American woman for whom it would have been understandable if she never wanted to see this place again.”
He continued: “But no – instead she, as an artist, a performer, was determined that she would not perform again until she had returned to Manchester to perform.
“In doing so, she brought comfort to thousands, she raised millions for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund and became the first patron of that fund.
“And that’s why I propose that Ariana Grande is made the first honorary citizen of the city of Manchester.”
