  • Ariana Grande debuted a butterfly tattoo on the Grammy Awards red carpet.

  • Coincidentally, Shawn Mendes also has a butterfly tattoo on the same arm as Ariana.

Sure, Ariana Grande is, like, the Queen of Pop right now, but did you know she is also the Queen of Tattoos? If not, shame on you—any true Ari fan knows that she absolutely loves adding teeny new tats to her body because she is a canvas looking to expand on her lil works of art. Case in point: While you were oohing and aahing at Ari’s gorgeous Grammys dresses (yes, plural), you totally missed that she debuted a new tat on the red carpet. It’s a butterfly!

I know, I know. You’re probs feeling like a fake stan if you didn’t notice, but that is okay! This time around, Ari decided to be a bit more discreet with her tattoo—instead of showing off on Instagram like she usually does, she gave fans a sneak peek of the butterfly beneath her arm-length gloves. Here it is, saying hello:

Perhaps the funniest thing about this is that Shawn Mendes literally has a butterfly of his own...on the same arm. True story! Back in July, a fan posted an edit of Shawn with a tattoo and tweeted, “Shawn Mendes with a butterfly tattoo. I rest my case.”

Somehow, Shawn saw the tweet and actually put the girl’s tattoo suggestion in the exact same place that she suggested. Honestly, it was (and still is) a great look for him.

Just because Shawn had the butterfly tattoo on his arm first does not mean Ari copied him, though! The tattoo could very well be a nod to Mariah Carey, who Ari has cited as one of her major vocal influences. Mariah’s sixth studio album is literally called Butterfly, so...it fits. Or Ari could really just f*cking love butterflies. Who knows, really!
