Modern Family star Ariel Winter has posted a lengthy "rant" against the media and how they have been covering her wardrobe choices and her life.

Posting the text on Instagram, the 19-year-old said she was just "LIVING" and that she "can't do that without paparazzi following me around every day".

"I'm not trying to show you my ass in shorts when I go to the grocery store. I'm trying to live my life," she wrote.

"People wear shorts. People have wardrobe malfunctions. No-one is perfect."

She added: "Just because I DECIDE to show my body occasionally doesn't mean I'm unintelligent or that I'm talentless or that I have no self respect. I have extreme SELF RESPECT.

"We need to move on from this stigma that women who are comfortable with their bodies and their sexuality are just 'dumb sluts'," she urged.

In a recent interview, Winter opened up about trolls criticising her dress style and targeting her weight even when she was a pre-teen.

"I was like, 'Maybe I'm going to lose some weight, dye my hair, change how I dress… maybe I'm doing something wrong'," she recalled. "I actually got more hate by trying to change."

And earlier this year, she hit back at her haters by questioning why others would ever care what she's wearing - whether it's on a red carpet event or out and about shopping for groceries.

"Everyone was so focused on my cleavage, so when I got the breast reduction it helped me feel so much better about my body," she added to Refinery29.

"I used to have full-scale meltdowns in bathing suit shops because there was nothing I could find to wear. I always felt like crap about myself. It's gotten a little better, but it's still definitely hard."
