Ariel Winter’s Mum Slams Star For Her Breast Reduction And For ‘Flaunting’ Her Scars

As she posed happily on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Ariel Winter didn’t care that the scars of her recent breast reduction were on show. She wasn’t ashamed of them, in fact she was proud to show off an aspect of her body journey. But not everyone agreed and the young actress was criticised online for putting them on display. Though she hit back at the body shamers at the time, the 18-year-old Modern Family actress has been slammed once again, this time by her estranged mother.

Crystal Workman hasn’t spoken to her daughter in more than three years, but in an interview with Inside Edition the mother has hit out at her daughter’s decision to undergo breast reductions surgery at just 18, and then to “flaunt her scars” months later.

Last June Ariel had her breasts reduced from a size 32F to a 34D, in a decision she says has changed her life for the better after suffering years of back pain. The surgery came just a month after Ariel was emancipated from her mum and the pair have had no contact since, but that hasn’t stopped Crystal speaking out about the way her daughter has chosen to live her life.

“I don’t think anyone at that age should be cutting into their breasts,” she told Inside Edition.

“I am surprised she did it so young and that the doctor did it for her so young.”

Crystal then went on to criticise her daughter’s decision not to cover her scars on the red carpet.

“I’m sorry, I just think this is inappropriate,” she continued. “She should never be embarrassed of her scars but she shouldn’t be flaunting them.”

In the past Ariel has openly defended herself against haters who slammed her for revealing her surgery scars. “Guys there is a reason I didn’t make an effort to cover up my scars! They are a part of me and I’m not ashamed of them at all,” she wrote on Twitter.

But it seems the actress won’t be responding to her mother’s comments any time soon. Ariel’s spokesman told the magazine: “As we’ve stated previously, Ariel is happy and in a great place. We will not comment any further.”

And the recent pictures of her enjoying Coachella with her boyfriend, Laurent Claude Caudette, in a bralet and tiny denim shorts seem proof of that. Sometimes pictures can speak a thousand words. Right Ariel?
