Arizona Firefighters Rescue Young Javelinas Trapped in Storm Drain

Firefighters in Mesa, California, rescued two young javelinas that were trapped in a storm drain on Monday, December 9.

Footage released by the Mesa Fire and Medical Department shows two crew members from the Mesa Fire Department’s Ladder 214 at the storm drain with the javelinas.

Javelinas, also known as peccaries, are medium-sized animals that look similar to wild boars.

According to the fire department, firefighters worked with the Arizona Game and Fish Department and the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center to help find a home for this pair, which were orphans. Credit: Mesa Fire and Medical Department via Storyful
