Arizona police search for man who threatened to kill Donald Trump

The search is on for an Arizona man who threatened to kill Donald Trump, who is campaigning in the state Thursday.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s office is on the lookout for Ronald Lee Syvrud who “is being sought as an investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate,” according to a statement on the department’s Facebook.

Police told the Daily News that Syvrud, who is also wanted for failure to register as a sex offender, specifically targeted Trump in a social media post.

The Republican candidate for president is visiting Arizona’s border with Mexico Thursday and planned to be in Cochise County.

“We are working closely with all local, state, and federal partners to locate this subject related to the outstanding warrants and the threats investigation,” the sheriff’s office said

Syvrud is 6 feet tall, 66 years old, weighs 220 pounds, has white hair, wears glasses and was last known to live in Benson, Arizona.

Arizona police said he has an outstanding hit-and-run warrant in Graham County and is wanted in Wisconsin for driving under the influence and blowing off a court appearance. The nature of his threat against the GOP candidate is unclear.

Trump narrowly survived an assassination in Pennsylvania last month, where a 20-year-old gunman whose motive remains unclear fired a shot that grazed the 78-year-old Republican’s ear. Trump resumed holding outdoor rallies Wednesday in North Carolina surrounded by bulletproof glass.

Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also visited Arizona’s border with Mexico recently and plans to deliver a speech in Phoenix Friday.
