ARK: Survival Evolved update 1.65 just landed on PS4, but there are no official patch notes to explain what it does. Thanks to a tweet from the game’s official Twitter account Thursday afternoon, we have an answer. The 5GB download enables HDR support on PS4 and PS4 Pro.

At approximately 1 PM Eastern, a client-side PS4 Patch will be deployed which will enable HDR Mode for ARK! Our servers will not be restarted, but please be aware if you've enabled auto-update, you may be booted to download the patch.
Thanks for your patience!
“At approximately 1 p.m. EDT, a client-side PS4 patch will be deployed which will enable HDR Mode for ARK,” the tweet reads. Because the 1.65 update makes no gameplay adjustments whatsoever, the upgrade process does not require a server refresh. HDR Mode first debuted on Xbox One X when the system first launched, and PS4 support has been teased for quite some time. Now those optional enhancements will be available across the full line of PlayStation 4 systems.
Just in case you were wondering, ARK update 1.65 has nothing to do with the console version of the Dino TLC Phase 2 patch that launched on PC earlier this week. While its six Dino overhauls are expected to release on PS4 and Xbox One, the current release target is sometime in mid-April.
The launch of this PS4 HDR patch for ARK showcases Studio Wildcard’s continued commitment to adding small quality-of-life fixes to its popular sandbox survival game. Moving forward, the PC client will receive weekly updates with the most recent bug fixes. It remains to be seen how this schedule will be reflected in ARK’s console versions, but the intent for consistent improvement is certainly there.
Beyond HDR support, it’s been a pretty busy couple of weeks for fans of ARK: Survival Evolved. As the PixARK spinoff approaches its early access debut next week, Wildcard officially announced full ports of Survival Evolved for mobile devices and Nintendo Switch. With the base game experience truly being finalized, it’s clear that Wildcard’s next goal is to expand the ARK IP.
ARK: Survival Evolved is available now on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Mac and Linux. Update 1.65 is exclusive to PS4.
