Armada Way tree to be moved to new home
The council is set to start work this weekend on removing trees from an area in Plymouth. One of the Armada Way trees will be moved to its new home in The Park, the new crematorium at Plympton.
This is the first of four trees that will be moved. Contractors Glendale with their sister company Civic Trees have pruned the Whitebeam in the compound in front of Sainsbury’s, ahead of its translocation – which entails moving the entire tree, complete with large root ball, and soil and moving it in one mass, the council said.
Plymouth City Council said: "This is the first of four trees that the Council committed to be translocated, and the tree has been pruned to around half its size and is now about 4.5 metres.

"The pruning will help the tree cope with the stress of the move, reduce the ratio of canopy to retained roots and helping it to better adjust to its new environment.
"The tree and root ball will be removed from the ground using a mechanical tree spade mounted on the back of a truck. This is expected to take several hours to complete.
"The roots will be protected during transport so that they do not dry out or get damaged as the tree is transported. The tree will have its own intensive care regime, which includes regular watering, weeding and other attention to give it the best chance in its new environment. The move has to take place on a weekend when there are no services at The Park."
