Firearms officers were scrambled to the M20 motorway near Maidstone on Monday (October 14) by Kent Police in a mission to apprehend a mischievous swan.

Armed police swooped in, assisting Highways England to capture the feathery culprit after it made an unexpected landing on the carriageway, leading to some delays around 4 pm.

Taking to social media Kent Police shared: "If you had delays yesterday 4pm on the M20 around @KentPoliceMaid it was due to a swan which appeared to crash land and get confused."

They expressed gratitude to those caught up in the operation: "Thanks for your patience if you were in the rolling road."
