A “disruptive” man dressed as Tinkerbell caused delays on a Ryanair flight after armed police were called to Stansted Airport to remove him.

The passenger was kicked off the flight to Krakow along with another man after the pair “refused to settle down” before take-off and caused delays.

Police confirmed one man was dressed as the Peter Pan fairy, while witnesses claimed his fellow passenger was wearing a Bob the Builder costume.

One passenger on the plane to Poland, Dan May, tweeted to say the flight was being held at Stansted because of “a man dressed as Tinkerbell”.

He added that armed police had arrived and “one officer has adjusted the man’s wings”.

"Meanwhile, the man dressed as Bob the Builder has been exceptionally well behaved," he added.

A picture from the scene appeared to show police on the ground with a bald man wearing a green Tinkerbell dress and wings.

Ryanair said it would not tolerate “unruly or disruptive” behaviour and renewed a call for airports to prohibit the sale of alcohol before 10am.

A spokesperson said: “Police removed and detained two passengers ahead of this flight from London Stansted to Krakow (17 Aug) who were disruptive, before the aircraft departed to Krakow. We will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behaviour at any time and the safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority. This is now a matter for local police.

An Essex Police spokesperson said the pair had become “disruptive” on the plane but were scheduled on a later flight after cooperating with officers. She added that all of the force’s officers at Stansted are armed.

The plane eventually departed almost 40 minutes late and landed in Krakow at around 1.20pm.
