Armed police seize multiple weapons from vehicle after road rage incident

Armed police were called to an incident in Wells on Tuesday night where a man was being threatened. Police later seized a number of weapons including air weapons, a bow and arrow, a catapult, and a machete from a vehicle following the incident

At around 6pm, officers were called to Shepton Old Road, in Croscombe after reports that a lorry driver was being threatened by another motorist. A number of armed police officers, supported by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and drone unit were deployed.

An eyewitness said: “Armed Police officers in Wells on Tuesday night at 7pm. The incident happened nearby to the Premier Inn, Rowdens Road”.

Around 7.10pm, police located a man in the Rowdens Road area. Officers searched a vehicle and caravan which resulted in a number of weapons being seized.

A 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He remains in police custody at this time, Avon and Somerset Police said.

In a statement, they added: ""A 58-year-old man has been arrested after a man was threatened in Wells last night (Tuesday 23 April)."Officers were called at around 6pm to Shepton Old Road, in Croscombe, following a report of a lorry driver being threatened by the driver of another vehicle.

"Due to the nature of the threats, armed officers were deployed and were supported by the National Police Air Service and drone unit to locate the offender.“At about 7.10pm, officers located a man in the Rowdens Road area, and subsequent searches of a vehicle and a caravan resulted in items being seized, including air weapons, a bow and arrow, a catapult, and a machete.

"The man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and he remains in police custody."
