Armenian Opposition Leader Takes Marchers Through Capital as Election Date Announced

Armenian opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan joined a march through Armenia’s capital, Yerevan, on April 26, the same day the country’s parliament announced elections for prime minister would be held on May 1.

The election comes after the resignation under pressure of former Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan on April 23.

Pashinyan criticized the election, telling Armenian television the process would not be fair if it was organized by the Republican Party of Armenia, which Sargsyan leads. Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty via Storyful
