Arne Slot has already forced Richard Keys into Liverpool U-turn after comfortable Man United win
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has already made Richard Keys eat his own words after an impressive start to life at Anfield. The Reds are currently second in the Premier League, behind leaders Manchester City on goal difference, after winning their first three top flight fixtures.
An impressive 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford is the latest result Slot's side have picked up this season. The win saw him break a number of Liverpool records, despite his brief tenure.
Of course it remains far too soon to get carried away with any talk of title credentials, but Keys' column in April said that Liverpool were making the same mistakes made by Manchester United.
"I believe Liverpool are about to make the same mistakes that Utd did," Keys wrote in his blog back in April. "Arne ten Slot.
"Really? Not for me. And I’m not alone. There isn’t a Liverpool fan that I’ve spoken to isn’t totally underwhelmed by the news ten Slot is going to replace Klopp.
"Ok. Let’s cut him some slack. I accept we don’t know. It could turn out to be an inspired appointment. But I’m not convinced.
"Why ten Slot? (I know that’s not his name but he’s mini-me isn’t he?). I guarantee you we’ll hear all the same things they said about ten Hag when Liverpool finally unveil their man. What you won’t hear is an admission that he wasn’t first choice. Or that his record in Holland isn’t even as good as ten Hag’s was."
A 3-0 win over United is a good foundation to build upon, and Keys has now backtracked after a solid start to the campaign.
"I thought Liverpool were good," he wrote in his blog. "No more. But they didn’t have to be. They swept Utd away without getting out of second gear. I’m hoping my reservations about Arne Slot were wrong. In fairness, he’s made a great start and what players are saying leads me to believe they’re enjoying working with him.
"Anyone would think he’d got a magic wand. Ah - Harry Potter maybe? It’s taken him no time to get the Anfield machine running smoothly, proving it can be done. They’re second after three wins and they haven’t conceded yet.
"Doubtless ten Hag will point out that Utd were top for 17 hours earlier in the season?"
