Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson this summer. The 24-year-old impressed with the Serie A side last season and has been outlined as a potential target for a list of top European clubs.

Italian outlet Tuttosport has claimed that the Reds have registered an interest in the Brazilian ahead of an important transfer window for the club. Arne Slot's first window in charge of the club will play a big part in his success at Anfield with a number of positions requiring attention.

Teun Koopmeiners, also at Atalanta, has been linked with a move to Liverpool having worked with Slot at AZ Alkmaar. However, it's now claimed that focus is on Ederson and bringing the former Corinthians star to Anfield.

A fee in the region of €50m (£42m) has been mooted with Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham all interested. The midfield of Slot's team is one of the problematic areas in the squad and more than one player could be signed.

After losing a host of midfielders 12 months ago, the Reds' midfield lacked the relevant quality to compete at the top of the Premier League. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai proved to be good signings with Wataru Endo doing the job as the defensive anchor.

However, reinforcements are expected to be made. Ederson is a strong midfielder who boasts terrific defensive numbers, ranking in the 72nd percentile for tackles and 85th percentile for interceptions.

Should Liverpool bring the Brazilian to Merseyside, then Slot could find himself with a variety of options to choose from. Alongside Mac Allister and Szoboszlai, that trio is full of quality.

With Stefan Bajcetic, Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch and Harvey Elliot waiting in the wings, the signing of Ederson could be the perfect signing for Liverpool. Having the array of options to choose from off the bench or in cup competitions would help Slot's transition to English football no end.
