Real Madrid star Rodrygo is a player who has been mentioned with Liverpool a fair bit in the last few weeks.

The Reds are entering a new era under Arne Slot's stewardship. The Dutchman officially becomes the new head coach of the club today, and there will soon be a new face in the dugout at Anfield for the first time in nine years.

As well as the shake-up in the head coach department, changes have been made at the top of the club with Michael Edwards returning. Slot and Edwards, alongside sporting director Richard Hughes, will work closely to bring new players in during the summer.

Perhaps the most high-profile player to be linked is Rodrygo. The Brazilian has become one of Real Madrid's most important players in the last two years, guiding them to this season's UEFA Champions League final.

However, his future at the Santiago Bernabeu has been placed into doubt recently. Reports in Spain have described Liverpool as the favourites to land the talented forward with many believing he is the perfect profile to replace Mohamed Salah on Merseyside.

With Jude Bellingham taking the accolades for his debut season in Spain and Kylian Mbappe expected to add further firepower to Carlo Ancelotti's squad, it has left question marks over the 23-year-old's future.

However, ex-Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has showered Rodrygo with praise he may not often receive with the list of superstars in Madrid's team. Speaking to The Times, he said: "The question is always raised: who is the best player for Real Madrid? Some will say Jude Bellingham, someone else Vinicius Junior, but I like Federico Valverde and Rodrygo.

"Rodrygo plays alongside Vinicius Jr in attack but is rarely talked about. For me, he is doing everything right. His movement is clever, his passing and the positions he takes up are good and we have seen his finishing can be the difference."
