Arne Slot saw Liverpool do something 'incredible' and it pleased him most against Manchester United
Arne Slot saluted his Liverpool players for their reaction to an early disallowed goal as they beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.
In a game that Slot's team dominated on his first visit to United as Reds' head coach, Trent Alexander-Arnold struck an early opener before a VAR review chalked it off due to Mohamed Salah being in an offside position. However, Luis Diaz then scored a first half-double before Salah netted his third of the season in the second period to continue Liverpool's 100% start to the new Premier League campaign.
Slot's side have now scored seven goals in their opening three fixtures without conceding and the head coach was full of praise for his players as he became the first Reds boss to win his first fixture at Old Trafford since George Kay in 1936.
“Could it have gone much better? No, I don’t think so," Slot said. "Everything that you want to see as a manager you saw in this game. There were some difficult moments for us, I think United started really well and won some corner kicks but we fought ourselves through those moments.
“Then we had the disallowed goal but there was no negative reaction at all, we just kept playing. We scored three, could have scored more and two important saves from Ali in the second half. Everything was there.
“The most important was the work-rate was incredible from all of them without the ball. That makes it a very positive day. I normally don’t use the word proud, but what we did really well in all three games is the work-rate without the ball.
"We tried to press the opponent as high as we can but if they play through or over our press I see everybody working really hard to make sure we don’t need Ali. Sometimes we do and it’s a good thing we have a really good goalkeeper.
“What impressed me the most is the way we played with the ball as I know what we can do without the ball. The way we played with the ball was very good today.
Slot added: “I’m not sure the people in Holland will 100% agree [it was the biggest game of my career] as Feyenoord v Ajax is quite a good game, but all over the world people see this is the bigger game.
“It was special to be involved in this game and it’s only special if you win it and that’s what we did. Really pleased we won it but maybe even more with how we did it."
