Arne Slot expressed his delight that Mohamed Salah is “one of ours” after the Egyptian increased speculation over his long-term Liverpool future. Salah scored one goal and assisted two more for Luis Diaz as the Reds romped to a memorable 3-0 Premier League victory at bitter North West rivals Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The 32-year-old spoke to television after the game in which he admitted, with no talks having yet taken place to extend a contract that expires next summer, he could have played for the final time at Old Trafford for Liverpool having scored 10 goals in eight games for the Reds at the stadium.

Incredibly, only four United players have scored more goals at Old Trafford than Salah since the middle of January 2021.

And when asked about the Egyptian’s situation, Liverpool boss Slot said: “There’s a lot of ifs there.

“But at the moment he is one of ours and I’m really, really happy with him being one of ours. He plays really well.

“I don’t talk about contracts from players, but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today.

“He was impressive like in the first two games. But if we talk about an individual you don’t do justice to all the other ones, because today we saw a real good team performance.

“Playing out from the back, a high press, a midfield that keeps on running. All the attention goes to Mo and Lucho but that doesn’t do justice to the other nine and the others who came in.”

Liverpool maintained their 100% start to the season under new boss Slot and also kept three clean sheets in their first three Premier League games for the first time since 2018.

Slot, though, believes the changes in how the team are defending are minimal.

“I don’t think we’ve done that much different,” he said. “You are used to Liverpool pressing really high and that’s what we try to do now as well.

“The first two games at Ipswich and Brentford were difficult opponents let that be clear, but I’ve said before I’m not expecting them to end up in the top nine. Today we played a good United team with a lot of quality.

“It impressed me that could keep a clean sheet, although today we also needed a goalkeeper in two moments. A good start, but still a lot to prove.”
