Just days after environmental campaigner Leonardo DiCaprio posted a snap of himself with climate change activist Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old went on to meet up with another big Hollywood star as she joined Arnold Schwarzenegger for a bike ride.

The former Governor of California uploaded a series of photos from their cycle around Santa Monica, where they were accompanied by Schwarzenegger's daughter Christina and Thunberg's father Svante.

The Austrian-born actor wrote: "It was fantastic to see my friend and one of my heroes @gretathunberg last week and go on a bike ride around Santa Monica together and I was so pumped to introduce her to my daughter Christina. Keep inspiring, Greta!"

Schwarzenegger, 72, has previously leant his support to Thunberg and her cause as he offered her the use of his electric car.

Fitness advocate Schwarzenegger is a keen cyclist and often orchestrates photo opportunities posing on hired bikes as he explores international cities. In 2011, he posed with then London Mayor Boris Johnson to promote the environmental and health benefits of the so-called Boris Bikes.

In 2015 and 2017 he was photographed cycling in Paris too.

DiCaprio posted photos of him meeting Thunberg on Friday, describing her as a “leader of our time”.

He wrote: “There are few times in human history where voices are amplified at such pivotal moments and in such transformational ways – but @GretaThunberg has become a leader of our time.

“History will judge us for what we do today to help guarantee that future generations can enjoy the same livable planet that we have so clearly taken for granted. I hope that Greta’s message is a wake-up call to world leaders everywhere that the time for inaction is over.

“It is because of Greta, and young activists everywhere that I am optimistic about what the future holds. It was an honor to spend time with Greta.

“She and I have made a commitment to support one another, in hopes of securing a brighter future for our planet. #FridaysforFuture #ClimateStrike @fridaysforfuture.”(sic)

Thunberg was planning to speak at the United Nations global climate meeting in December in Santiago, Chile, however, the conference has since been moved to Madrid, Spain.

It comes after the Swedish teenager traveled by sailboat from England to New York earlier in the year.

Refusing to use aeroplanes due to the large carbon footprint they produce, the activist is looking for alternate means of travel.

“I’ll need some help," she tweeted. "It turns out I’ve travelled half (sic) around the world, the wrong way. Now I need to find a way to cross the Atlantic in November. If anyone could help me find transport I would be so grateful.”
