Around 2,000 Civilians Remain in Embattled Frontline Town of Avdiivka

According to the Ukrainian military, around 2,000 people remain in the embattled Donetsk town of Avdiivka, which lies on the frontline in east Ukraine, south of Bakhmut.

A Ukrainian soldier told Current Time that Russian forces were trading “their men for a few meters of Ukrainian soil” through battles in the area.

Footage from Avdiivka, which Current Time said was shot around March 20, showed heavy damage to buildings in the town, where once 30,000 people lived.

The Ukrainian governor of Donetsk Oblast, Pavlo Kyrylenko, told national media on Thursday that Ukrainian forces were holding the line in Avdiivka.

According to a Ukrainian military official, 2,000 people remained in Avdiivka on Thursday, March 24. A local official told Ukrainian media that around 180 people had been evacuated from the town in the past three weeks, but that evacuations were made difficult by Russian firing.
