Arrests as Housing Insulation Campaigners Block Motorway Junctions Near London

A group campaigning for housing insulation in the UK caused traffic chaos around London early on September 13 as they blocked several junctions on the M25, the main orbital route around the city.

Police in Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire reported arrests, with Sky News saying at least 30 activists had been detained.

The group, Insulate Britain, blocked several junctions stretching around the city. Footage sent to Storyful by the group shows the actions at two locations, one near Heathrow Airport and another near Godstone, in Surrey. The video shows a line of protesters sitting across a slip road, but allowing an ambulance to pass.

Insulate Britain described the disruption as “just the start”. They said actions would continue “until the government makes a meaningful commitment to insulate Britain’s 29 million leaky homes,” which they described as some of the “most energy inefficient in Europe.” Credit: Insulate Britain via Storyful
