Arrow's Colton Haynes reveals his mother has died

Colton Haynes has revealed the sad news that his mother has passed away after a battle with her health.

The actor, who's known for his roles on Teen Wolf, Arrow and American Horror Story: Cult, shared the news on Instagram on Friday (March 23), saying that he had lost his "best friend".

"Today I lost my best friend, the love of my life...my momma," he captioned a number of images of his mother and the two of them together.

"Words can't express how incredible this woman was. I have so many things to say but I'm in a state of shock. I will always love you momma. RIP my angel."

The news that Dana has passed away follows just one month after Colton revealed that she'd been diagnosed with advanced cirrhosis of the liver and kidney failure after being "in and out of hospital" since January this year.

Colton revealed that while his mother could be cured with a liver transplant, she didn't have a lot of time left to wait for one.

"The doctors suggested that we now focus on my mother's quality of life rather than quantity of life. It's heartbreaking," he said.

Colton recently returned to DC TV series Arrow as part of a dramatic midseason storyline that saw Roy Harper called back to Star City for a fateful reunion with former flame Thea Queen (Willa Holland).

Arrow airs on The CW in the US, and on Sky One in the UK.
