Holy shock casting news, Batman! Burt Ward, who played Robin in the '60s Batman TV show, is set to make an appearance in the Arrowverse's 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' crossover.

Batwoman executive producer Caroline Dries announced the news during the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday.

“We’ve got a ton, a ton, a ton of characters coming into the five-part event," she said. "Burt Ward will be making an appearance.”

Ward played the Boy Wonder alongside the late Adam West's Batman for the entire three seasons of the iconic Sixties television series.

His Arrowverse casting comes after the news that DC's Legends of Tomorrow's Brandon Routh will be reprising his role as Superman for the major crossover event. Yes, really.

According to Deadline, Routh isn't the only Superman in town for 'Crisis on Infinite Earths', as Supergirl's Tyler Hoechlin will also play his version of the Man of Steel in this crazy crossover – with them both existing in alternate timelines.

'Crisis on Infinite Earths' will unite every man and his dog from the Arrowverse for five epic episodes. This includes superheroes such as The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Ruby Rose's Batwoman.

The first three instalments are set to air this December, whilst the remaining two will debut in January 2020.
