PFA and FWA player of the year N’Golo Kante can add to his rapidly expanding trophy cabinet with the prize, which can be voted on until 7pm on Friday May 26, but will have to hold off the challenge of Chelsea team-mate Eden Hazard.

At the time of writing Harry Kane is leading Kante in the fan vote with 35 per cent, likely down to his spectacular goalscoring run in the final week of the season, when seven in two games secured the Tottenham striker his second Golden Boot in as many years.

Dele Alli joins his goalscoring partner Kane on the shortlist whilst Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, the only player to reach double figures in goals and assists during the Premier League season, is also among the nominees.

The only player on the shortlist not from a London side is Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, who scores 25 Premier League goals during the season.
