Arsenal duo Carl Jenkinson and Cohen Bramall have joined Birmingham on a season-long loan.

Both players were prepared to drop down into the Championship in order to get regular first team football.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made it clear he wants to reduce the size of the squad, but Jenkinson's decision to join Harry Redknapp's side will come as a surprise.

The 25-year-old right-back made just five appearances for the club during 2016-17, the last of which was in November.

However, he impressed for 18 months on loan at West Ham before that, only for a knee injury to cut short his second spell at the club.

The England international was also a target at one point for Crystal Palace last season, but no move was forthcoming.

Redknapp has convinced Jenkinson, who still has three years left on his contract, that he can help Birmingham win promotion back to the top flight.

Meanwhile, Arsenal want Bramall to get some experience as he has yet to play since joining from Hednesford Town in January.

The 21-year-old left-back has made a good impression since moving to the Emirates but is still a long way from challenging for a first team spot.
