Eddie Nketiah believes he can become a “top striker” at Arsenal if he lets Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang take him under his wing.

Nketiah came off the bench to score an 85th-minute winner against West Ham on Saturday, after Alexandre

Lacazette and Michail Antonio had both found the back of the net.

The goal was the 21-year-old’s first of the season and manager Mikel Arteta has urged him to challenge Lacazette for a starting spot.

Nketiah is determined to make the grade at Arsenal after joining them in 2015, following his release from Chelsea, and he believes Aubameyang can help him reach the top.

“Auba’s a great player and I’ve had the privilege of playing alongside him for a little while now,” said Nketiah. “He’s a top striker and that’s where I want to be in the future. Whenever we’re

training or working on little things, I’m always asking him about how he does it, how he prepares and whether he has any little tips.

“Some of the variety in his finishing is just outstanding and what’s even better is that he is always willing to help other people out — he’s great to have around. He’s one of the best about and I’m always looking to learn from him.”

Arsenal have made a strong start to the season by winning their opening two Premier League games and they are now looking to press ahead with their transfer plans.

A deal of around £1.5million has been agreed to bring in goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson and the Iceland international could complete his move in time to feature against Leicester in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Arsenal may still swoop for another goalkeeper before the transfer window shuts, as Matt Macey, like Emi Martinez, wants more first-team football. Brentford’s David Raya is firmly on Arsenal’s radar, but the Bees insist they have no plans to sell. The Gunners will hope to make progress with getting players out the door this week. They want to shift the likes of Lucas Torreira, who is attracting interest from Atletico Madrid, so they can pursue deals for Atletico’s Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar, of Lyon.

The Hammers were greatly improved following their opening-day loss to Newcastle and manager David Moyes revealed he wants to sign “three or four players” before the transfer window shuts next month .

Burnley’s James Tarkowski is understood to be one of their top targets, but they are yet to have an offer accepted.

West Ham have some money to spend after selling Grady Diangana to West Brom and Moyes said: “I just don’t want centre-halves — I want other positions as well.

“Ultimately, I would like to sign three or four players, but I totally understand if we are not in a financial position to do so.”
