Germany manager Joachim Low has confirmed that Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil will start in a side to take on Spain that will include the core of the 2014 World Cup-winning team.

Jerome Boateng, Toni Kroos, Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller will also feature for Die Mannschaft, with Low planning on rotating his side for prestige friendlies against Spain and Brazil.

However he will have to do without Liverpool midfielder Emre Can, who suffered a back injury in training on Wednesday.

“Emre Can will not be in the squad tomorrow because of the back problem he brought with him from Liverpool,” Low said. “He tried to train yesterday but broke it off because it was pinching a bit.

“Maybe Saturday he can return to training and hopefully play a role against Brazil.”

Low added: “I think tomorrow the structure will be around Jerome, Mats, Mueller, Kroos and Ozil who will start.

“I am not planning to play the same players in both matches. I want to try things out.”

Low is blessed with options as he plots to retain the title Germany won four years ago in Brazil and was able to do without Borussia Dortmund trio Andre Schurrle, Marco Reus and Mario Gotze, scorer of the winner in that final.

He insisted the latter two were “in no way ruled out” with competition for places likely to be intense in the final weeks of the season.
