Arsenal 3-1 Tottenham LIVE! North London derby result, match stream and latest updates today

Arsenal vs Tottenham LIVE!

Arsenal have north London bragging rights after an impressive 3-1 derby victory over Spurs at Emirates Stadium continued their recent resurgence.

Mikel Arteta’s side have now won four games on the bounce across all competitions to turn around their fortunes after a dreadful start to the 2021/22 season, with Emile Smith Rowe, captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka all on target in a remarkable first-half display on Sunday.

Tottenham got a late consolation goal through Heung-min Son and Aaron Ramsdale pushed Lucas Moura’s deflected effort onto the crossbar in second-half stoppage time, but Spurs could not prevent a third successive listless Premier League loss.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo will certainly have questions to answer after a miserable first derby at the helm, with his side having conceded three goals in three successive top-flight games for the first time in 18 years.

Arsenal have now risen above Tottenham into 10th position, having been bottom of the table heading into the September international break.

Arsenal 3-1 Tottenham

A third successive win for the resurgent Gunners takes them above Spurs into 10th. They were bottom of the table heading into the September international break, remember.

Much work to do for Nuno and Co, who slip to a third successive League loss. They have conceded three goals in all of them.

18:20 , George Flood

91 mins: Into five minutes of added time and Lucas’ deflected strike is pushed onto the crossbar by Ramsdale!

A fine late fingertip stop to prevent this from becoming really nervy for Arsenal.

18:16 , George Flood

86 mins: Time is rapidly running out for Spurs to stage a late comeback.

A foul on Smith Rowe offers some breathing room for Arsenal, who send on Maitland-Niles and Nuno Tavares in place of Saka and Smith Rowe.

18:13 , George Flood

81 mins: Kane charges into Gabriel and Tierney tries in vain to restore Arsenal’s three-goal lead.

Spurs have a pep in their step since that Son goal and Arteta is preparing to introduce Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

18:10 , George Flood

79 mins: Xhaka was down in a heap as Spurs scored that goal and now limps off after receiving treatment on the pitch.

This looks like a painful blow for the Swiss midfielder.

He is replaced by Albert Sambi Lokonga.

GOAL! Arsenal 3-1 Tottenham | Heung-min Son 79'

18:08 , George Flood

79 mins: Not so fast!

A lifeline for Spurs as Reguilon looks to tee up Kane, but Son arrives first and finishes smartly.

Ramsdale got a hand to it, but couldn’t keep it out.

They couldn’t mount a comeback here, could they?!

18:04 , George Flood

75 mins: Xhaka chases down Lloris, whose latest poor clearance is just about kept in play.

Three Arsenal players now afflicted by cramp as Xhaka and Saka stay down.

18:02 , George Flood

72 mins: Really nice football again from Arsenal as Saka easily drifts inside Reguilon and onto his left foot before producing a decent drive that is pushed wide by Lloris.

17:58 , George Flood

68 mins: Aubameyang gets free at the back post from an Arsenal free-kick, but his tame effort is pushed into the air and then held by a frustrated Lloris, who then sends the ball straight into touch.

Bryan Gil is Nuno’s third substitute. Ndombele off.

17:56 , George Flood

66 mins: Frustration from Skipp as the ‘oles’ start from the Arsenal fans, with the Spurs substitute rightly booked for steaming in on Partey.

A touch of cramp for Ramsdale here leads to a break in play.

Dan Kilpatrick at Emirates Stadium

17:54 , George Flood

From here, it looked like Spurs should have had a penalty for White’s trip on Kane. Why not blow up and let the VAR decide?

Spurs have improved with Kane testing Ramsdale and clipping wide. Too little too late, surely.

17:53 , George Flood

64 mins: I’m not quite sure how Xhaka has yet to pick up his customary yellow card as he pulls down Ndombele.

17:52 , George Flood

62 mins: Kane leaves Tomiyasu in his wake and takes a great first touch to control Dier’s probing long ball forward.

However, he lofts it inches wide of the far post and the offside flag is raised.

17:50 , George Flood

60 mins: Son’s overhit free-kick is easily claimed by Ramsdale, who then has to dive low to his right to keep out a testing effort from Kane.

A strong right hand from the former Sheffield United man, with Tomiyasu clearing the rebound ahead of Son.

17:48 , George Flood

58 mins: Cheers from the Arsenal fans as new no1 Ramsdale - who has not had much to do this afternoon - easily plucks a hopeful cross out of the air.

Odegaard’s needless foul on Ndombele gives Son the chance to swing in a dangerous delivery from the left.

17:46 , George Flood

56 mins: That should be a penalty for Tottenham after Skipp’s low pass is deflected and Kane falls under the challenge of White.

The ball stays in play and the incident is checked, but nothing given.

Dan Kilpatrick at Emirates Stadium

17:43 , George Flood

Arsenal remain in the ascendency at the start of the second half, with their supporters hoping to turn a comfortable win into a landslide.

Despite the half-time changes, Spurs look no more competent and are still struggling to keep the ball for any meaningful length of time.

17:42 , George Flood

53 mins: Arsenal scream for a penalty after Odegaard chips a lovely ball to Aubameyang at the back post and Gabriel goes down under the challenge of Sanchez.

Referee Craig Pawson is surrounded, but he doesn’t point to the spot and play continues after a VAR check.

Gabriel looked to have gone down far too easily there. But Arteta is incensed.

17:41 , George Flood

52 mins: It’s still Arsenal doing the probing here as Emerson sees of Smith Rowe and Tomiyasu earns a corner off Hojbjerg.

17:38 , George Flood

49 mins: White easily clears Reguilon’s cross and the Spaniard tries to head the loose ball into the path of Son, but it goes straight out of play to mocking cheers from the jubilant home fans.

Nothing at all going for Spurs so far today.

17:36 , George Flood

47 mins: Arsenal are keen to pick up where they left off as Sanchez is forced into a key defensive header and Partey strikes wide after being teed up by Saka.

Second half underway

17:34 , George Flood

Back off and running at the Emirates.

Can Spurs make a game of this or will Arsenal inflict more misery in the second half?

17:32 , George Flood

Tottenham are sending on both Emerson Royal and Oliver Skipp at half-time.

Tanganga and Dele make way.

Pressure on Nuno

17:25 , George Flood

Half-time

17:20 , George Flood

Arsenal 3-0 Tottenham

A 45 minutes that will live long in the memory of Gunners fans, with Smith Rowe, Aubameyang and Saka all on target.

Spurs just terrible. Kane headed wide their best chance.

17:18 , George Flood

45 mins: Two minutes added on at the end of this remarkable and one-sided first half.

17:16 , George Flood

44 mins: Arsenal are so nearly in again before half-time as Partey plays a perfect diagonal ball into the path of Aubameyang, but a poor first touch from the Arsenal captain allows Dier to nip it away.

An attempted Spurs counter is stopped in its tracks, with Lucas left on the deck by Tierney.

17:14 , George Flood

43 mins: A shellshocked Nuno deep in thought on the touchline as he no doubt contemplates half-time changes.

How on earth do his side get back into this?

As bad as Tottenham have been, Arsenal have been excellent.

17:12 , George Flood

17:10 , George Flood

38 mins: A real chance for Tottenham to reduce the deficit as Gabriel turns a dangerous cross behind and Kane’s free header from the corner flies narrowly wide of the far post.

GOAL! Arsenal 3-0 Tottenham | Bukayo Saka 33'

17:06 , George Flood

33 mins: Tottenham are completely all at sea here. Utterly woeful.

Kane gives the ball away deep inside the Gunners half and Arsenal break at speed again, with Saka running at Dier from the right before Kane’s attempt at a sliding tackle leads to the ball inadvertently deflecting back into the path of his England team-mate, who then leaves Lloris helpless with a low shot into the far corner.

More than 10 minutes still to play until half-time and it’s 3-0 to rampant Arsenal, who hadn’t scored more than once in a League game this season before today.

An absolute nightmare first north London derby for Nuno, whose team have shipped three for the third successive top-flight match.

And this could yet get much worse.

GOAL! Arsenal 2-0 Tottenham | Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 28'

16:59 , George Flood

28 mins: Arsenal break with purpose after a risky pass from Ramsdale into Xhaka, who fends off his marker to avoid danger. Was that a foul? VAR are happy.

Tierney feeds Aubameyang, who sets away Smith Rowe with a wonderful flick.

Smith Rowe then charges into the box before teeing up his captain, who fires beyond Lloris and into the far corner.

Tottenham had come right back into this game, but they find themselves 2-0 behind after a stunning counter-attack.

Nuno’s men with a mountain to climb.

16:55 , George Flood

24 mins: Kane gets away from Ben White and is miles out as he thrashes a shot hopelessly over the top.

Ironic cheers from the Arsenal fans. A dreadful effort from the England captain.

16:54 , George Flood

22 mins: Signs of improvement from Tottenham as Aaron Ramsdale makes a strong stop to deny Son and Tanganga heads well over from a good chance at the subsequent corner.

65% possession for Spurs over the last five minutes.

Dan Kilpatrick at Emirates Stadium

16:51 , George Flood

After impressive starts against Chelsea and Wolves, Spurs have begun the game woefully.

They’re far too passive and look short of ideas in possession, while their midfield is being totally overrun.

Arsenal deserve credit though. They’re all over the visitors and sensing blood.

Smith Rowe on target

16:50 , George Flood

16:48 , George Flood

17 mins: Confident Arsenal are in the mood here and sensing more first-half goals as Lloris saves from Partey and Aubameyang then fires an effort narrowly over the crossbar.

Spurs look very poor indeed at the back so far. They need to wake up.

16:47 , George Flood

15 mins: Tottenham finally move through midfield with Lucas, with Reguilon providing a teasing cross from the left that just evades Kane before an awkward but very necessary clearance from a contorted Tierney under pressure from Dele Alli and Son.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Tottenham | Emile Smith Rowe 12'

16:43 , George Flood

12 mins: Arsenal have made much the better start to his game and they break the deadlock early!

Smith Rowe sweeps home Saka’s pull-back, with good work from Odegaard to launch that attack.

Tottenham’s defenders completely static inside the box.

It’s been a dismal start from Spurs and they are deservedly behind.

It's loud inside the Emirates and the home side have responded with a lively start.

They're pressing Spurs high up the pitch and have had an early chance, Aubameyang testing Lloris.

Spurs are still looking to settle.

16:40 , George Flood

8 mins: Arsenal come again but Tierney’s cross is overhit and Spurs eventually clear their lines.

Tottenham then go very direct again, but nothing doing for the moment as they try to get Kane involved.

16:38 , George Flood

7 mins: Chances at both ends in quick succession, but the offside flag was eventually raised on both occasions.

Lloris gets down at his near post to repel Aubameyang’s strike after a swift Arsenal break involving Emile Smith Rowe and Kieran Tierney.

Moments before that, Heung-min Son squeezed out a deflected shot after both of the Gunners’ centre-backs were caught out under a ball over the top.

16:36 , George Flood

5 mins: A nervous kick from Hugo Lloris puts Sergio Reguilon under pressure, with Bukayo Saka then committing the foul.

Aubameyang then piles pressure on Davinson Sanchez, who manages to earn a goal kick.

16:33 , George Flood

2 mins: A couple of solid challenges from Arsenal to get the crowd involved early on here.

A frantic start gives away to Arsenal maintaining some possession, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg then clattering into Thomas Partey and conceding a free-kick in the middle of the park.

Kick-off

16:31 , George Flood

Both sets of players take a knee and we are underway at the Emirates!

Who will claim north London derby bragging rights this time?

16:29 , George Flood

Arsenal have not won back-to-back games against Tottenham since the 2013/14 season, while Spurs have not won at the Emirates since 2010.

A fascinating derby in store this afternoon.

A minute’s applause for the late, great Jimmy Greaves before kick-off.

16:26 , George Flood

Boos ring out around the Emirates as Tottenham head out of the tunnel first, followed by hearty cheers as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leads out Arsenal.

A crackling pre-match atmosphere in N7.

16:22 , George Flood

Less than 10 minutes to go until kick-off in north London.

How are those derby nerves?

Kane eyes scoring record against Arsenal

16:11 , George Flood

Harry Kane is already the leading scorer in north London derby history, with 11 to his name in just 13 encounters.

He will be looking to become the top Premier League goalscorer ever against Arsenal today, with one more pulling him level with Wayne Rooney on 12.

Kane ended his domestic duck for the season against Wolves in the Carabao Cup in midweek, but he has yet to net in the top-flight so far this term.

Arteta: Arsenal had to struggle to build ‘something incredible'

14:49 , George Flood

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta believes the struggles Arsenal have endured in his time at the helm so far were necessary in order for the club to bounce back, become stronger and “build something incredible” for the long term.

"We are in a different moment in our history," Arteta told Sky Sports News.

"Every club has to go through different patches, and we went through the patch of the last 18 months with a big covid situation on the back of a lot of instability in the club in the last two or three seasons.

"That's a difficult mix to suddenly turn things around and build something incredible. But I'm a big believer that this had to happen. For this club it had to happen - we had to experience this and that's going to make us much stronger.

"I can feel what is happening here, and I can feel what is happening with the supporters, with the generation of players that we have here, with everybody that is involved in the organisation. I think it is going to be pretty powerful."

Local pride on line but rivals have been cast adrift from top four

14:34 , George Flood

Mingled with the outpouring of revulsion and fury at the European Super League proposal in April, there was a flicker of incredulity at the identity of two of the rebel six English clubs.

Six months ago, Arsenal were on course for a fifth consecutive season out of the Champions League and, as it turned out, a first year without any European football for over a quarter of a century.

Similarly, Tottenham were heading for the dubious honour of being England’s first representatives in the Europa Conference League and had just passed 13 years since their last trophy.

The two north London clubs appeared lucky to count themselves as part of such an exclusive club of 12.

As they prepare to meet at Emirates Stadium on Sunday, the heavyweight status of both clubs remains in doubt and their positions in the Premier League’s so-called ‘big six’ feels increasingly uncertain.

The make-up of the breakaway cartel of European clubs owed more to financials than football, and in pure money terms the “big six” is still a thing.

Nuno: Spurs must make a lot of improvement

14:28 , George Flood

Nuno was also keen to stress the need for players to be careful in terms of their varying fitness levels amid a fixture pile-up and wants to see swift improvements after back-to-back 3-0 defeats, particularly in terms of defending set-pieces.

“Each and every one of our players has to be really careful,” he said.

“We have to be really careful in how we decide and all these things, because we have different players in different momentums in terms of preparation.

“But I believe that in the moment that we are in that we must use the games and the matches to increase our levels of fitness, our levels of performance and the technical aspects of the team.

“So we still have a session to go. Today was the second day of recovery after the Carabao Cup game and tomorrow we will look at them and make the decisions.

“We have Lucas back which is good news so let’s try to make and prepare the game. It’s a different game. We must feel it.

“A lot of aspects that we have to improve. Set pieces, the way we conceded, especially with the momentum of the game, we were in control, so dominant and created so many chances and we allowed our opponent to get back into the game. A lot of improvement has to be made.”

Nuno: North London derby is not ‘just another game'

14:24 , George Flood

It is common to see managers attempt to play down the significance of fixtures like today’s in order to manage expectations, but Nuno attempted no such ploy ahead of his first north London derby in charge at Spurs.

“It’s not another game. It’s a special game. A special game for us, a special game for our fans,” he said. “It’s going to be a tough match but no doubt, it’s a different game.

“I had many, many situations in derbies but this is a new one, a tough one, and a good one, a special one for our fans. If it’s special for our fans, it’s very special for us.

“We expect a tough match. Recent weeks [they had] better results, this is the assessment we make. We have to try and get the right info to the players to deliver.”

The stakes are high for two managers who know the pressure on them will ramp up if things do not go their way.

Neither can afford a defeat here.

Tottenham are still without injured duo Steven Bergwijn and Ryan Sessegnon, but Lucas Moura is back in contention.

Nuno could opt to quickly recall the Brazilian and play him as part of a front three along with Harry Kane - set to make his 250th Premier League appearance - and Heung-min Son.

Japhet Tanganga is also back from suspension.

Mikel Arteta has the luxury of a fully-fit Arsenal squad to choose from for today’s derby.

Granit Xhaka is available again after serving a three-match suspension following his red card in the 5-0 drubbing by Manchester City.

Arsenal made 10 changes for the win over AFC Wimbledon in midweek, with Thomas Partey retaining his starting berth and playing for an hour as he continued to build match sharpness ahead of the visit of Spurs.

Arteta must decide today whether to stick with the attacking lineup that beat Burnley with Martin Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe either side of Partey, or else go a touch more conservative in midfield with the inclusion of Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Welcome to Arsenal vs Tottenham LIVE coverage

13:38 , George Flood

Good afternoon and welcome to Standard Sport’s LIVE coverage of the first north London derby of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

These two fierce rivals have experienced something of a reversal in fortunes over recent weeks, with Arsenal winning back-to-back games against Norwich and Burnley after a wretched start to the new campaign under Mikel Arteta.

Tottenham, meanwhile, were top of the table after three narrow victories to begin the Nuno Espirito Santo era, but successive 3-0 losses at the hands of Crystal Palace and Chelsea have brought that honeymoon period to an abrupt end.

Both sides got through to the last 16 of the Carabao Cup in midweek, with Arsenal brushing aside third-tier AFC Wimbledon and Spurs holding their nerve in a penalty shootout at Wolves after blowing a 2-0 lead.

Who will claim bragging rights today?
