Arsene Wenger has confirmed talks with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil over new Arsenal contracts have reached an impasse.

As reported by Standard Sport on Tuesday, the star pair are no closer to agreeing extensions to their expiring deals as they approach their final contracted season at the Emirates Stadium.

Negotiations have now been shelved until the summer with Wenger revealing his preference to end prolonged discussions, such as those earlier in the season, in favour of focusing on the league run-in.

"At the moment we do not have an agreement," Wenger told beIN Sports. "We have decided to focus on the end of the season and talk about it during the summer.

"It is the same situation with Ozil, because once you don't get an agreement and it lasts it's not good. It's better you get it out and sit down during the summer."

Sanchez and Ozil are both injury concerns, with the Germany international missing Arsenal's previous five games and now ruled out of the visit of England on Wednesday.

The Chilean, meanwhile, trained with his international team-mates on Tuesday amid fears of ankle ligament damage, with Wenger describing his condition as "terrible" following the weekend loss at West Brom.

When asked for an update on Sanchez, Wenger said: "I don't know because he left for Chile.

"In South America, they have a decisive period for the qualifiers for the World Cup, they have a very important game against Argentina over the weekend. He went there.

"The last news I have is that it was only the kick. I don't know if his ligament was damaged or not - it was swollen so hard to assess after the game - but it looks positive."
