Arson investigation launched after BMW torched on Southampton estate

A BMW has been reduced to a smouldering wreck after being torched during an arson attack.

Firefighters raced to Coleridge Court following reports of a car engulfed in flames at around 11.30am today.

Thick black smoke could be seen billowing into the air as emergency crews tried to contain the blaze.

Police have now confirmed that an arson investigation is underway and a witness appeal has been launched.

Officers are now working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 11.23am today (December 8) to a report that a car was on fire on Farringford Road, Southampton.

"Officers have launched an investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting 44220496304."
