Arsonists drag rubbish behind shop to start fire - days after wheelie bin blaze in same spot
Firefighters say arsonists setting fire to rubbish are putting lives and property at risk.
Hartlepool fire crews have attended two blazes in the same area of the town this month at the rear of shops in Owton Manor Lane. And, they are calling on businesses to help stop the problem.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade said: "Earlier this week (24/10) a fire was set at the rear of a shop on Owton Manor Lane, in Hartlepool. A similar incident occurred on (15/10) when an industrial wheelie bin was also set alight. Both incidents occurred behind St Patrick's Shops, close to inhabited flats.

"In the latest fire, refuse had been dragged behind the shop and ignited, causing damage to the building's guttering and generating intense heat near residential areas, putting the residents and properties at risk."
They went on to say working together to prevent arson is everyone's business and firms can help by:
Restricting access by keep alley gates securely locked
Clearing refuse and store waste securely
Considering installing security lighting and CCTV
People are urged to report any deliberate fires or fire starters to Fire Stoppers at firestoppersreport.co.uk.
