Art attack - Woman destroys £130,000 of displays at LA gallery while trying to take a selfie

A clumsy woman taking a selfie has destroyed modern art worth around £130,000 at a Los Angeles gallery.

CCTV images show the woman bumping into some of the displays as she poses for her own photograph on her camera.

Three of artist Simon Birch’s sculptures were “permanently damaged” due to the women’s actions at The 14th Factory gallery, it was claimed.

However, some are not convinced.

In an era of fake news, some claim the incident may have been a PR stunt, or even a piece of art itself in order to drum up publicity for the gallery and the show.

Some cynics even took to social media to ask whether the event was genuine or made-up

If it is real though, the selfie-taking woman would not be the first member of the public to have destroyed on-show art.

In 2015 a 12-year-old boy in Taiwan stumbled then used a $1.5 million Paolo Porpora painting to break his fall.

For good measure, he was also holding a soft drink which went through the canvas.

And last year one enthusiastic member of the public elbowed an Andy Warhol masterpiece Triple Elvis, estimated to be worth $70 million on display at a San Francisco gallery.
