Asda extends £1 kids meals to the Easter holidays

Asda has extended its £1 meals for children to run through the Easter holidays, as families continue to find ways to save money throughout the cost of living crisis.

The ‘Kids Eat for £1’ meal deal in the supermarket’s 205 cafes has been available since June 2022 for any child under 16.

Asda say that the initiative has seen 1.3 million meals served to children over the last few months – and they are now planning to offer vegan and healthier options.

The updated menu, available from 20 March, will offer pasta and meatballs and a vegan-friendly vegetable pasta meal, with the option of swapping out chips for salad or peas in the existing hot meals selection.

A free piece of fruit will also be offered with every hot meal, the supermarket added.

Jelly and whole fruit pieces will be offered as a healthy alternative to crisps to go with sandwiches in the cold pick and mix selection.

Asda say that parents will also be able to buy meals throughout the Easter holidays at the beginning of April after their income tracker found UK households were £91 a month worse off compared to January 2022, with the average family spending power at £215 a week.

It comes as figures analysed by trolley.co.uk found that Asda had the third highest price rises compared to other supermarkets.

There has been a 7.6% increase in prices in Asda since March 2022 – below Co-op and Iceland and higher than price rises seen in stores including Aldi and Waitrose.
