Asda shoppers swear by £16 item that's as 'good as Gymshark'
Asda shoppers have been swearing by George gym leggings. The supermarket has announced the launch of its high-performance sportswear brand Gym Locker, after a trial in 2024.
Dubbed an affordable answer to contemporary athleisure for both men and women, the collection consists of cream, mauve, and mute grey pieces. Available in sizes from XS to XXL, the items are designed to be worn in and outside of the gym.
Starting from £7, the range includes accessories, comfort-fit tops, oversized hoodies and four styles of sculpted leggings. Made from Skin Fabric, the squat-proof leggings are said to “maintain full opacity under the pressure of deep squats and stretches".

They are also said to "draw sweat from the skin to keep users dry and comfortable even during the most intense workouts”. One of the standout pairs of leggings shoppers have been loving is the So Soft High Waisted Leggings, priced at £16.
A customer said they were comparable to Gymshark, which usually retails for double the price. The review read: “Excellent quality, the fit is perfect. I am very impressed with these leggings. I wore these to a class the other day. I didn't need to pull them up, there was no rolling down of the waist, and they were as good as Gymshark. The thickness is also perfect.”
Another customer said: “Decent quality, comfortable fit, good length, and they're washed well. I thought there were going to be pockets on both sides, so I was a little frustrated that it's on the left-hand side, but it's a minor thing.”
A third added: “As I’m only 5’1”, the length on these is perfect to the ankle. They're super soft and comfortable, and they stay put, with the pocket a bonus. They're flattering and generous”. However, not everyone was as impressed. A handful of customers left reviews complaining about the size, the pockets and the zips.
A spokesperson for George at ASDA said: “Since we rolled out the online trial of Gym Locker last autumn, we have seen an unprecedented uplift in the number of our customers seeking out and buying sportswear.
“From the rise of everyday athleisure to high-performing products which will support and elevate their exercise routines, our customers have shown us that they’re on the lookout for products which look great and perform, whilst not breaking the bank.
“This last year we have worked hard to grow the collection and are proud that Gym Locker will now be available in 50 stores, with further drops planned for later in the year and beyond.”
