Ash Covers Sonoma Sheriff Cruiser as Wildfire Burns Nearby

Ash blanketed a police cruiser in Sonoma County, California, on Monday, September 28, as the nearby Glass Fire grew to over 11,000 acres. The fire destroyed structures and prompted thousands of evacuations, fire officials said.

The fire, the cause of which remained under investigation, began at around 6 am on Sunday morning and remained at zero percent containment on Monday morning.

In an update on Monday, Cal Fire said two additional fires started overnight and merged with the Glass Fire, adding that firefighters faced “strong and gusty offshore winds, low humidity, and dry fuels” as they continued their efforts to contain the fire on Monday.

Evacuation orders and warnings were in place for Napa and Sonoma counties on Monday.
