The Caldor Fire grew to 65,475 acres (102.3 square miles) as of Thursday, August 19, forcing evacuations near the California-Nevada border. The fire started on August 14, officials said.
This footage posted on Wednesday by Aaron Hagar shows ash falling “like snow” in South Lake Tahoe.
“It’s hard to breathe out here,” Hagar says in the video. “It’s scary.”
Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for parts of El Dorado County as crews reported “extreme fire behavior,” officials said.
