Ash Wafts Above La Palma as Cumbre Vieja Volcano Stabilizes, Authorities Say

Large clouds of smoke and ash poured out of Spain’s Cumbre Vieja volcano, wafting above the island of La Palma, footage shared on October 6 shows.

This video taken by the Spanish Geological and Mining Institute (IGME) shows the volcanic ash wafting from the Cumbre Vieja.

The La Palma council said on Wednesday that the volcano was stabilizing and that fewer earthquakes had been reported on the island compared to previous days.

The air quality had improved, El Pais reported, although it could worsen slightly in the coming days.

Almost 422 hectares (about 1.6 square miles) had been affected by lava runoff as of Wednesday, according to La Palma council. Credit: IGME via Storyful
