Ashley Cain and Safiyya Vorajee have reunited for the first time since their split and the news that Ashley had welcomed a new child. The former couple sadly lost their eight-month-old daughter Azaylia, who was being treated at Birmingham Children's Hospital, to acute myeloid leukaemia in April 2021 after a huge fundraising campaign to save her life.

The Midlands couple, from Nuneaton, established the Azaylia Foundation in her memory. They split up a year after Azaylia's death. Ashley, who played football for Coventry City and appeared on TV on shows including Ex On The Beach, revealed he had had a boy called Aliyas Diamond with a close friend in January. He said he would protect him “with all of my heart, for the rest of my life”.

At the time Safiyya admitted she thought they would reunite until he told her he was expecting a new baby and claimed Ashley had asked her to have another baby with him. Speaking about the 'brutal' way he told her the relationship was over, Safiyya, 36, told The Sun on Sunday: “He’d had a drink, it was quick and brutal. He said he couldn’t do it any more.”

But they put aside any difference as they came together for the premiere of the touching documentary film "Kids Like Us", featuring special guest Nile Rodgers. The highly influential musician, also a two-time cancer survivor, introduced the movie and highlighted the presence of some of the courageous children who appeared in the film.

The united front displayed by Ashley and Safiyya at Cineworld in Leicester Square was a powerful statement about their commitment to raising awareness for childhood cancer - a cause close to their hearts. Safiyya spoke passionately to The Sun saying: "Myself and Ashley will always be united.

"For me and Ashley we've always got our purpose and that is Azaylia, we'll never lose sight of that. And you'll always see us together and you'll always see us do whatever we need to do to help children fight against childhood cancer, and that is a bond that will last for eternity."

In the 90-minute documentary, children narrate their own experiences and interview each other, bringing humour and empathy to the table. David Gibbs, Chair of Trustees at Children with Cancer UK, expressed: "Our hope for this powerful film is that it sparks a conversation about the reality of childhood cancer for those it affects. Every day in the UK, 10 children and young people receive a cancer diagnosis and have to face tough treatments often lasting years.

"Sadly, cancer is still the biggest cause of death for children under the age of 15, and yet less than 2 per cent of UK cancer research funding is targeted at children's cancer. Children with Cancer UK is doing all it can to change this by creating more awareness, more funding and ultimately ensuring more children and young people survive cancer."
