Ashton Kutcher has opened up about how his twin brother Michael nearly died after surgery.

Michael was born with cerebral palsy and in an episode of The Checkup with Dr David Argus, the brothers talked about the condition and its impact.

Michael's struggle with the disease left him needing a heart transplant and the That 70's Show star discussed the experience of witnessing that.

Kutcher said: "My dad comes, picks me up, and it's like, we're going to go see your brother and I'm like…everything is not okay. And he flatlines in the room."

The actor continued: "I know that noise because now I've been visiting occasionally and watching the thing go and it flatlines out. And they're like, 'You've got to [go],' and they're grabbing me, and they take me out and I'm like, ‘what the hell is going [on]?'"

In the clip, Kutcher can be seen getting emotional and beginning to cry as his brother holds his hand.

Kutcher has also faced recent health issues of his own after getting diagnosed with vasculitis, a relatively rare condition that causes inflammation of the blood vessels.

The disease left Kutcher unable to see, walk or hear for a period of time.

The What Happens in Vegas actor discussed his experience with the disease on an episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge.

Kutcher said: “I was unable to walk and suddenly can't see...When you have this face to face with death you instantly lock in to what are you doing with today.”

He added that it caused him to look at life differently: “You don't really appreciate it until it's gone. Until you go, 'I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to see again, I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to hear again, I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to walk again.'”

Kutcher also said it took him around a year to recover from his illness.
