Aspiring Tory MP reportedly claimed to have healed deaf man through the power of prayer

A Tory candidate has reportedly claimed to have healed a deaf man through the power of prayer.

Kristy Adams, Conservative candidate in Hove and Portslade, cured a man who was deaf in both ears by putting her hands on his ears and saying: “Be healed in Jesus’ name”, the Mirror reported.

Apparently once she removed her hands, the man could hear without his hearing aids.

The Mirror said the healing had apparently taken place while Mrs Adams was representing her church, the King’s Arms Church in Bedford, at a spirituality and new age health expo held at Earl’s Court in March 2009.

In an interview, which the Mirror said was published on the Church’s website, she said she was part of a group running a “healing centre” at the fair, where volunteers distributed bible scriptures and encouraged visitors to “give their lives to Jesus.”

Mrs Adams reportedly said: “He had hearing aids in both ears and I just thought that wasn’t right. It just annoyed me. So I said: ‘I don’t think that’s quite right, is it? That you should be serving God like this.”

“So I said: ‘Can I pray for you?’ – and his eyes lit up, which is unusual when you offer to pray for someone’s healing. You don’t expect that.”

After she removed her hands, she said, he could hear without his hearing aids but they had prayed together a few more times, “just to make sure. I’m a cynic.”

The Mirror said the Tory candidate told the newspaper: “Like millions of Christians in the UK, I believe in praying to help people”, adding, “Millions of Christians around the world pray for people’s health – that’s a good thing isn’t it?”

Mrs Adams’ interview on the church’s website is apparently one of many featured that include tales of healing thanks to the power of prayer, from bad backs and loss of smell to leukaemia.
