Aston Villa sponsor takes aim at Birmingham City with Oasis joke
Aston Villa’s sponsor has aimed a dig at rivals Birmingham City.
Betano - who are the official partner of Aston Villa - took to X to the delight of Villa supporters and the dismay of Blues fans, they posted: “It’s been so long since Oasis last performed a gig. Birmingham City were still playing Premier League football when it happened.”
The joke surfaced hours after Oasis announced their 25’ Live tour after a 15-year hiatus - they will return to UK Stadiums including Wembley, Murrayfield, and The Principality next summer in what promises to be a historic event in the nation’s musical history.

Villa agreed a two-year agreement with the company - whose logo features on Aston Villa’s men’s team’s jersey - in April 2024.
In a press release after the announcement in April, the company’s Co-Founder and CEO, George Daskalakis said: “Aston Villa fans have a lot to be proud of in the Club’s long and illustrious 150-year history. Their passion matched on the pitch by incredible players and management taking the Club on the road to glory makes The Villans one of the most formidable teams in world football today.”
Mocking your rivals is always an easy way to endear yourselves to a football club. In the comments section underneath the post, fans began to exchange words; Birmingham fans reminded their city counterparts that Villa also are on the same amount of trophies now that they were in 2009 - the year Oasis split up.
