The Joao Felix transfer saga has come to an end – with everything in place for the Atletico Madrid player to return to Chelsea.

That’s according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein who says the Blues have reached an agreement over the 24-year-old’s permanent transfer – with personal terms ‘already in place’.

That means Felix, who spent last season on loan at Barcelona, will not be joining Unai Emery at Aston Villa despite the Spaniard’s well-publicised admiration for the super-talented attacker.

Ornstein took to social media to deliver an update on Felix – and a hammer blow to Villa’s already receding prospects of what would have been an eye-catching move to Villa Park. Ornstein posted: “Chelsea have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid over permanent signing of Joao Felix. Personal terms already in place for 24yo Portugal international attacker to join #CFC from #Atleti on 6yr contract + option of additional 12mnths.”

A fee has not been mentioned, although there are reports of a £40million deal. Earlier in the window it was suggested Villa were unable to go above £27.4m to complete the signing.

Villa's squad size and quality has increased this summer, with Emery forced to leave two new signings out of the match-day group which won at West Ham at the weekend.
