Aston Villa were promoted back to the Premier League five years ago and so much has changed in that time. Three different managers, loads of new signings, a season behind closed doors, survival on the final day, that night away at Fulham, to trips around Europe under Unai Emery. What a ride.

To relive such a brilliant rise, Aston Villa fan and broadcaster Dan Bardell has teamed up with our Claret & Blue Podcast crew to share the ups and downs of the last five years.

As a follow on to a video ahead of the Championship Play Off Final in 2019 titled 'One Year On' in which Dan discussed the 12 months that saw Villa appoint Dean Smith and book their place at Wembley Stadium, comes a sequel, if you like, titled 'Five Years On'.

The video features a poem written and performed by Dan which highlights the key moments from the past 5 years in a 16 minute video package. The footage was shot by Dan Rolinson at our BirminghamLive podcast studio and in the surrounding areas outside our beautiful Villa Park.

Music for the piece has been composed by Jake Ryan, which if you listen carefully, you might just hear twangs of that famous Champions League music.

The video is embedded below directly from our Claret & Blue YouTube channel, I'd highly recommend watching with the visual elements, but you can also listen to an audio-only version on podcast providers such as Spotify & Apple Podcasts.
