Unable to get their car up and running again, the Astonis find themselves stuck in Summer Bay for the night. Alf sees the family struggling as Ben makes some calls to a mechanic and offers to help. In the end, the Astonis accept Alf's offer to stay in the caravan park for the night. Ben and Maggie are grateful, while Ziggy and Coco are dismayed.

Ziggy takes Coco for a meal at Salt, where she steals some cash from Kat's wallet. Raffy witnesses the theft, however, and Ziggy soon finds herself in the police station, where she is let off with a warning.

Meanwhile, Kat insists to Ash that she does care about Luc, but it's just too much, too fast. Ash asks Kat whether she is closing the door on the idea of adopting Luc altogether and she doesn't answer. Wanting to help Ash out with his predicament, Tori suggests that Ash can adopt Luc on his own and Kat can add her name to the papers when she's ready.

Although Ash agrees that this is a great idea, he explains to Tori that he doesn't think Kat will ever be ready to make Luc a priority. Ash reveals that it looks as though their relationship has come to the end of the road.

Elsewhere, Bede surprises John by suddenly coming to visit, explaining to John that Marilyn gave him a call. Bede gives John an old suitcase that he found in his roof, which has some mementos and John's old things inside. John pulls out a frayed letter which is addressed to him and his mother. Bede points out the date written on the back of the envelope and explains that the letter was written on the day that John's dad died.
