AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccines Arrive in Uganda

Uganda received 864,000 doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine on March 5, shipped under the international COVAX initiative.

This footage was taken at Entebbe International Airport on Friday as the vaccines were offloaded and put into trucks.

“The long awaited Covid Vaccines are here,” tweeted Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine. “The vaccines are safe and efficacious.”

The Ministry of Health said that vaccinations would begin on March 10, and proceed in a phased rollout with the most at risk receiving doses first.

COVAX is a joint program led by the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, and GAVI, a global vaccine alliance.
