Atlantis Word Processor review

Atlantis Word Processor enables you to effortlessly create documents. The software looks outdated, but it features a handful of useful options not found in Microsoft Word.

Pros

Power Type: Atlantis Word Processor has a word completion feature where you type the first few characters of a given word, and a drop-down list of suggestions appears that you can navigate with the keyboard. The word database is completely customizable in the app's settings.

Tabbed documents: You can have multiple text documents open in the same window. You're even given the option to choose where to place the tab bar -- on the top, bottom, left, or right.

Writer's tools: There is a suite of manually activated proofing tools aimed specifically at writers, including checkers for overused words, homophones, or long sentences. There is even an option to export the text document as an EPUB e-book.

Cons

Outdated design: Between its cluttered toolbar and pixelated icons, Atlantis Word Processor is reminiscent of Microsoft Word 2003.

Annoying sound effects: The app simulates a typewriter by producing clicking sounds every time you start typing on the keyboard. This novelty wears off quickly, becoming just an annoying distraction. Fortunately, you can disable the sound effects in the software's settings.

Bottom Line

Although Atlantis Word Processor lacks certain features and an updated visual design, it does come with a few very useful options that are not available in Word. If you're looking for a tool with sophisticated proofing tools as well as a word auto-completion system similar to the one found on mobile devices, then give this product a go.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Atlantis Word Processor 1.6.6.3.
