Attempted murder investigation launched as man hit by car in Essex

Essex police have launched an attempted murder investigation after a man was struck by a car in the early hours of Friday morning - leaving him fighting for his life.

The man, who is in his 30s, is believed to have been struck by a vehicle on Potter Road in Harlow just after midnight.

He is now in a critical condition in hospital, Essex police has confirmed.

Less than an hour later a blue BMW, believed to be linked ot the incident, was found burning on a playing field near Roydon high street some 6.5km away.

A statement from Essex police said: "We were called around midnight with reports that a man was seriously injured on Potter Road after being struck by a car.

"The man, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in a critical condition.

"We were later called around 12.40am with reports that a blue BMW 1 Series was on fire at a playing field near to High Street in Roydon.

"Officers believe the car is linked to the collision.

"We would like to hear from anyone who was in the Potter Street area of Harlow around midnight or the High Street area of Roydon, shortly after this time and has any information about either incident. We would particularly like those with dash cam footage to get in contact."
