Attorney General Merrick Garland Makes Surprise Trip to Ukraine

United States Attorney General Merrick Garland made a surprise trip to Ukraine on Tuesday, June 21, to show support for Ukraine and meet with the country’s prosecutor general.

Video posted to the verified Twitter account of Anthony Coley, the director of public affairs for the United States Justice Department, shows Garland talking to the media with Ukrainian prosecutor general Iryna Venediktova.

He says, “I’m here to express the unwavering support of the United States for the people of Ukraine in the midst of the unprovoked and unjust Russian invasion.”

He continues, "I’m here to continue our discussions with myself and the prosecutor general on the actions the United States is taking to assist the Ukrainian authorities in holding accountable those responsible for the atrocities, for the war crimes, that the entire world has seen.
