The Audi R8 Spyder is now available in full-fat V10 Plus guise.
In Plus trim, the 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine makes 602bhp and is capable of going from zero to 60mph in 3.1 seconds. The top speed is 203mph.
Previously, Spyder customers could only specify the standard engine output of 533bhp, but now the drop-top version has the same choice of outputs as the coupe.
The roof is made from cloth and weighs just 44kg, which helps keep the car’s weight low to aid agility. It takes 20 seconds to open or close at speeds of up to 31mph and is stored in a compartment behind the driver – this does intrude marginally into the cabin though, meaning there’s less legroom for taller drivers.
Performance is aided by plenty of lightweight materials, which are used extensively on the Plus model. They contribute to the fact that the Spyder V10 Plus is 25kg lighter than the standard Spyder.
Stephan Winkelmann, managing director of Audi Sport, said: “The Audi R8 Spyder V10 Plus completes the R8 model line.
“It benefits from our many years of experience in motorsport and combines breath-taking dynamics with the emotion of an open-top sports car.”
UK order books are expected to open later this month, with prices starting at £147,470 – nearly £20,000 more than the standard Spyder.
