Austin Dillon tests positive for coronavirus, will not race at Daytona road course

RCR driver Austin Dillon tested positive for the coronavirus and will not take part in the Daytona road course Sunday, the team announced Saturday.

Dillon, 30, reportedly experienced mild symptoms of the virus, and decided to get tested on his own, according to Adam Stern of the Sports Business Journal. That test came back positive.

Dillon is self-isolating away from RCR, the team said in a statement.

That statement also mentions that Dillon’s wife, Whitney, and two-month-old son, Ace, “remain healthy and symptom free.”

Dillon will be replaced by Kaz Grala for the race.

Austin Dillon is the second driver with a positive coronavirus test

Dillion is the not the first driver with a positive coronavirus test. In July, Jimmie Johnson missed the Brickyard 400 due to a positive test. He expressed frustration over it, saying he followed all the protocols and was being safe.

Johnson, 44, missed one race due to the virus. He was able to return to drive in the Cup Series in Kentucky on July 12.
